How much is the Upwork fee for freelancers?
Upwork's Freelancer Service Fee ranges from 0% to 15% per contract. You see the exact percentage when a client sends an offer or when you submit a proposal, and it does not change once the contract starts.
How do I charge enough to keep a set amount?
Divide what you want to keep by one minus the fee. At a 10% fee, to keep $20 an hour you charge $22.22, which is Upwork's own example. Switch the calculator to 'I know what I want to keep' to do it for any fee.
Do I get the fee back if the client is refunded?
Yes. Upwork returns the Freelancer Service Fee on any amount refunded to the client, so you do not pay a fee on money you did not keep.
